Suck your contacts back out of Facebook

The perfect workaround to get your Facebook contacts back out into the "real world" of Yahoo, and then even into Gmail. It has to be a good method, notice who left a comment on the blog post...

Cheap on-the-air light solution

I came up with this while walking the aisles of OSH, a local hardware chain.

Let me know how it goes for you! I recommend having them test the remote for you in the store, as mine was a dud the first time.

Pro Tools HD users, DON'T go to OS 10.6.8

Avid isn't ready, as usual...

I'm installing the Combo update of 10.6.8, which is recommended for any mission critical users over the standard "delta" update that gets installed from Automatic Updates. http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399

A wild custom built vocal booth for sale in San Diego

This thing looks amazing! I bet it sounds great, but wouldn't dare consider it unless I could hear it in person. I can't imagine how much that thing cost to build, or what it's made out of for that matter...

Nice review of Sennheiser MK4 for voice

First I've heard this mic in use and it is smooth, almost dull at the top end.

Might be great for female or sibilant voices. A truly German made mic at $300.

Please vote for my wife's portfolio!

No sign up, just click on the stars to vote. She could win $2500 for the People's Choice Award, or a LOT more from the judges.

I find that many have gone the route of "newer must be better" and drank Skype's purple koolaide when Skype bugged them to upgrade to the miserable Skype 5.0 for Mac. Currently, I use it on my hackintoshed Dell Mini 10v, because Skype 2.8 would crash, but I went back to 2.8 on my Macbook Pro because I find the new user interface miserable. It also seems to be less stable in general.

What are your findings? Do you like it more? Do you use the group video chat feature? From what I can tell, that's the only selling point, despite not being free like oovoo.

Sticking with 2.8 for the time being, and I heartily recommend Mac users out there do the same. Wanna get 2.8 for Mac? Here it is.

SCAM ALERT: If you are looking for rentals on Craigslist, do NOT singup for creditreport.com

I fell for it...

The ad looked very convincing, and the lister told us we needed to signup for creditreport.com in order to provide them our rental history.  Turns out it was totally bogus and just a way for them to get credit for the referral using an affiliate link.  Luckily we were using a legit website when we signed up, but others aren't so lucky and provide their personal info to a fishing website.  I know what to look out for, so I would have see that coming.  Everything appeared completely legit until the person listing the property just stopped communicating with us mysteriously.  A Google search revealed the scam.

Telos Zephyr Express FS, but proceed with caution for VO

Unfortunately, the Zephyr Express was a lemon and had some issues doing the commonly used MPEG L2 Mono 128 codec setting. This is why its value is so low compared to other used codecs.

Fixing whining Mbox 2's for 99 cents

Today I had two different clients in one day with whining (humming, buzzing, whistling) Mbox 2 Minis connected to Macs.  One was connected to an iMac, the other to an Mac Mini, in two totally different studio configurations.  In each case the whine was eliminated through the use of a ground adapter, AKA ground lifter, plugged into the mic preamp and/or mixer's power plug.  Each one cost less than $1.   If you ever face whining USB interface problems, grounding issues are the first place the look and are very easy to test.  USB cables can at times be at fault, but most of the cases it's just grounding, or the need to break the ground on one piece of gear.

Please test my site, tell me if menus DON'T work under "Services" and what browser U R using (IE7, IE8, FF3, etc)

Some of my clients say they can't see my menus, and therefor can't browse my website. This is infuriating, since I pay a premium to use squarespace.com to host my website and they handle all of the CSS and HTML coding.

The VO-BB :: View topic - FS: Telos Zephyr 9202
