Fixing whining Mbox 2's for 99 cents

Today I had two different clients in one day with whining (humming, buzzing, whistling) Mbox 2 Minis connected to Macs.  One was connected to an iMac, the other to an Mac Mini, in two totally different studio configurations.  In each case the whine was eliminated through the use of a ground adapter, AKA ground lifter, plugged into the mic preamp and/or mixer's power plug.  Each one cost less than $1.   If you ever face whining USB interface problems, grounding issues are the first place the look and are very easy to test.  USB cables can at times be at fault, but most of the cases it's just grounding, or the need to break the ground on one piece of gear.
